The Joy of Writing

Last night, I was sucked by a friend of mine into watching a number of short films that had been produced by Wong Fu Productions (also known as Sketchbook Media) through the years. As the night rolled on, I began thinking about how their videos had evolved since they first began releasing videos in 2004, looking not just at the improvement in Wong Fu’s filmmaking and cinematography, but also at the evolution of their writing.

This is turn got me to thinking about my own experiences as a writer. I looked back to the time when I was writing and directing Kaba’s PCN Skit in 2009 and how much I enjoyed the creative process. I remembered how much fun I had using my words and imagination to create a world, and the joy I experienced in working with a team of actors and actresses as they learned how to bring their characters to life.

I’ve always considered creative writing to be a challenging but extremely fun task, and perhaps it is something that I should have considered pursuing when I was still an undergrad. After last night, I think I may start to do a little creative writing as a side hobby. To write a script for a short film or some sort of Assassin’s Creed fanfiction on the side as I continue to work towards a career in marketing/advertising. If I keep doing that and get better at this craft, who knows what could happen someday, right?
