In professional American Football, a game filled with celebration taunts and dances, the signagesture (aka signature gesture, and yes I made that up just now) oft utilized by Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has to be my absolute favorite.
It isn’t elaborate, it isn’t flashy, and it won’t draw any fines for excessive celebration. What it is, however, is a display of confidence and domination that has Rodgers, a normally quiet guy, dripping with a swagger that opposing players love to hate.
After getting a sack on the Packers field general in the first round of this year’s playoffs, Atlanta Falcons Defensive Lineman John Abraham taunted Rodgers with his own gesture on national television. Despite probably feeling like he was slapped in the face by the man’s dong in front of the entire world, Rodgers collected himself and marched down the field, scored the winning goal, and then calmly walked up to the camera. Pointing at his waist several times, Rodgers then gestured for the championship belt, as if to make it known that it was his strap and no one else’s.
So cheers to you, your swagger, and your touchdown celebration, Aaron Rodgers. Good luck next Sunday, and remember… if ever you doubt your chances of winning, just remember that Triple H approves of your signagesture. As such, not coming home with the Lombardi Trophy means subjecting yourself to The Game’s wrath.
