Just a Thought…
Okay, so Casey Anthony gets accused of killing her infant daughter and gets a slap of a wrist due to a lack of sufficient evidence. Troy Davis gets convicted of killing a police officer and was executed late last night, despite the fact that witness testimonies of the event had been changed and recanted in his favor over the span of his 20 year incarceration. The reason for this injustice? Terrible practice of law by the attorneys who represented him and changes to the constitution that were put into effect in the wake of 9/11 which limited his ability to have the decision reversed.
Just think about that for a second.
Now before I go on, let me just say that I don’t know every single details of what happened in the Troy Davis case, nor am I privy to the processes of criminal law. Based off of what I do know, however, I’m of the opinion that Troy Davis didn’t get a fair shake because of several “technicalities,” and was executed as a result. It’s been said time and time again that the U.S. has one of the most fair legal systems in the world, but something is fundamentally wrong with what happened to this man.
